Amit Shah Re-Elected As Chairperson Of Parliamentary Committee On Official Language

• Shri Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee On Official Language.
• The committee organised a meeting in New Delhi for re-constituting itself which led to Shah’s unanimous re-election.
• Shri Amit Shah has also served in the same role from 2019 to 2024.

Apple Launched iPhone 16 Series Globally  

• Apple finally launched its iPhone 16 series worldwide on the 10th of September 2024. 
• The basic model of the iPhone 16 is priced at around Rs 79,900 in India, similar to the iPhone 15.
• The iPhone 16 Plus, for 128 GB, is priced at around 89,900. However, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max have been priced slightly cheaper.
• The pre-order will start on September 13, 2024, in India having the first sale on September 20, 2024.

India And The UAE Signed Five Agreements In Various Areas

• India and the UAE have signed five important agreements in different areas.
• This also included the agreement for Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Operations and Maintenance between Emirates Nuclear Energy Company and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.
• These agreements between the Indian Prime Minister and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi marked an important historic event for bilateral relations.

Odisha’s Second AIIMS Will Be Opened In Sambalpur

• Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha’s Chief Minister, announced that the second AIIMS of Odisha state will be opened in Sambalpur.

First Indian President Of the Olympic Council Of Asia

• On the 9th of September 2024, Raja Randhir Singh was appointed as the First Indian President Of the Olympic Council Of Asia. 
• He is a veteran sports administrator and former shooter, aged 77, hailing from Patiala, Punjab. 
• His tenure will last till 2028, being the first time in history.

GST Council Announces Reduction Of GST On Cancer Drugs 

• The decision to reduce GST from 12% to 5% on some major cancer drugs was taken in the 54th GST Council Meeting. 
• Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister, also reduced GST on some selected snacks to 12%. 
• The GST Council also approved the formation of a group of Ministers on Compensation Cess.

• Anthony Albanese, the Australian Prime Minister, said that he would likely be introducing a Minimum Age Law For Using Social Media in the country.

India Emerges As The Second-Largest 5G Smartphone Market

• Counterpoint Research has issued a report that states India has become the second-largest 5G smartphone market globally. 
• This comes after surpassing the US in the count of 5G smartphone sales.
• India is trailing only behind China, leading the market for 5G smartphones. 
• Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi have significantly contributed to this trend by making 5G available at budget-friendly prices. 

India- USA Joint Military Exercise YUDH ABHYAS-2024

• The YUDH ABHYAS-2024 started on the 09th of September at the Foreign Training Node situated in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. 
• This is the 20th edition of the India- USA Joint Military Exercise happening since 2004. 
• This annual exercise is all set to continue till the 22nd of September 2024.

RBI Imposes Penalties On Housing and Urban Development Corporation, 2 others

• The RBI has imposed a huge penalty of Rs 3.5 lakh on Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited.
• Godrej Housing andAadhar Housing Finance Ltd. also have to pay a penalty of Rs. 5 Lakhs each for violation of regulatory compliances.

Moeen Ali Announces Retirement From International Cricket

• Moeen Ali, aged 37, has announced retirement from all International Cricket forms. 
• He has played as a versatile all-rounder for England since 2014 having his international debut against West Indies.
