Shivraj Singh Chouhan launches AgriSure Fund for Agriculture Start-ups

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Minister for Rural Development announced the launch of the AgriSURE fund in New Delhi. This comes as the follow-up launching of the fund as Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman announced a dedicated fund to finance agricultural and rural enterprises. 

The fund is mainly prepared for agricultural start-ups. NABARD will manage the AgriSURE fund. It has been started as a closed-ended scheme which will be functional for 10 years. Also, the fund can be extended for two years aiming to support 85 startups initially. 

Telangana signs MoU for World Trade Centre at AI City

 

On the 9th of September, 2024, the Telangana government signed an MoU with the Association of the World Trade Centers. This agreement is signed for the establishment of a World Trade Center in the to-be AI city near Hyderabad. This WTC is all set to feature a huge space of 1 million square feet where firms will be opened. 

These firms will be based on AI and other emerging technologies. The WorldTrade Center will be developed as a mini smart city that will have trade services, world-class office spaces, training facilities, co-living spaces, retail and entertainment zones, a luxury hotel, and primary healthcare facilities. Over 2500 delegates and 20 renowned speakers were the part of the event when the agreement was signed. 

International Literacy Day Celebrated On 8th September, 2024

The International Literacy Day is celebrated on the 8th of September 2024 globally. This day is marked significantly to spread awareness about literacy as a fundamental human right. International Literacy Day is marked as important by UNESCO. In India, the theme for this day was “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace”.

The Vice President of India, Mr. Jagdeep Dhankar was the chief guest at the event held in Delhi. Here, he talked about the importance of literacy and how it brings liberation and reduces dependency. He also pointed out the richness of India when it comes to different languages.

Ashwini Vaishnaw and Anil Kapoor are two major personalities who have been honored in the most prestigious list of Time magazine. One of the extremely recognized magazines worldwide, The Times, released a list of “100 Most Influential People in AI 2024”. 

This list highlights the personalities who have a significant impact in the Artificial Intelligence field. The list also includes some renowned global figures like tech titans, researchers, artists, policymakers, etc. Some major names include:

Tuhin Kanta Pandey Appointed as New Finance Secretary

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, an Odisha cadre IAS officer from the 1987 batch, has been named the new Finance Secretary by the Indian government. On September 7, 2024, this decision was made in response to T.V. Somanathan’s nomination as Cabinet Secretary, which resulted in a vacancy in the finance position.

Pandey will now be in charge of India’s financial policies and choices. Pandey was the Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) before. With the appointment, Tuhin Kanta Pandey is all set to have a major role in national finance-related decisions and policies. 

Harvinder, Preeti Named India’s flag-bearers for Paralympics Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony of the Paralympics was held on 8th September 2024-9th September 2024. In this closing ceremony, gold-medalist archer Harvinder Singh and double-medalist sprinter Preeti Pal were the flag bearers of the Indian contingent. Harvinder Singh, aged 33, became the first Indian to win Paralympic gold in archery. 

However, he was a bronze medalist in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020. Preeti Pal, aged 23, achieved another milestone by clinching two bronze medals in women’s T35 100m and 200m races. She is the first Indian women to do so. Their achievements are influential for the youth and upcoming generations. 

World’s 1st breeding centre for Asian King Vultures inaugurated in UP

Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre in the Bharivaisi, Campierganj Range of the Gorakhpur Forest Division. This is the first breeding center and conservation for the red-headed vulture worldwide. 

The conservation center was established in Maharajganj with the joint efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and the Bombay Natural History Society. The breeding center is spread in a vast land covering over 1.5 hectares. The total cost of this establishment is said to be Rs 2.8 crore.

Michel Barnier Named by Macron to be France’s New PM

On September 5, 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron named Michel Barnier, a veteran EU Brexit negotiator, as France’s new prime minister. This marked a momentous political move in the history of French politics. This selection represents a turning point in France’s ongoing efforts to build a stable government and comes after a protracted period of political unrest.

India secures record 29 medals at Paris Paralympics 2024

The Indian contingent concludes it Paralympics campaign with a total of 29 medals. India won seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals this year which is remarkably the best performance in the country’s history of Paralympics. This was the best overall performance of 84 para athletes representing the country in the prestigious competition. 

The 29 medals have been won in five sports whereas 17 are clinched from the track and field events. With a successful campaign, India finished to be in the Top 20 at the time of conclusion. China, being the most medal-winning country, again topped the medal tally securing a total of 220 medals, including 94 golds.
